There are many facets to the Green Man (also known as foliate head carvings) and many are to be found in East Anglia. Carved in wood and stone many examples back to the 14th century and in some cases even earlier.
The Green Man is very much a part of modern day thinking, his image is seen as a symbol of the forces of nature that are under threat from mankind's increasing impact upon planet Earth.

Prayer Shawl Ministry (21 photos)
The prayer shawl ministry was started early in 2010. A group of about 25 people make prayer shawls, prayer scarves, hankies and cards.
As people make shawls they are prayed over and then blessed in church before they are given away to people.
There have been over 200 recipients of these shawls so far. Each shawl gives comfort to those who receive it and members of the Prayer Shawl group commit themselves to continuing to pray for these people over the coming weeks.
Prayer Shawls for New Zealand
Over the past 18 months the Prayer Shawl Ministry have made over two hundred shawls and given them away to people locally and further afield, including Scotland, Lativia, Australia and Germany.
This project was started by Sarah Russell together with Reverend Libby Martin.
Sarah belongs to the Ashford Weaving and Spinning Group and receives newsletters on-line. In one of the newsletters she read that there was a great need for support for the victims of the earthquake which inspired her to write to her cousin as to what the group could do to help.
A request has been made for 21 Prayer Shawls, scarves (for men) and hankies, for the clergy in Christchurch who are supporting the victims of the earthquake. In essence we could be caring for the carers.
The shawls are already, each with an individual cross stitched card and accompanied by a hanky to be used when it is not possible to wear the shawl.
We are in the process of finding ways of sending them to New Zealand. If anyone has any ideas on how we can transport these shawls to New Zealand please get in touch.
The people who have received these shawls have made them feel so much better especially when held close or wrapped around a painful area.
